I’m a little red boat two!

January 31, 2011

(30×40 inches – acrylic on canvas)

Two little red boats now…
Both sold before they were finished…with very minimal exposure…
I sorta want to take a little break from my little red boats that can and do…
But I’ve got people that want more…
So, we’ll see…

The Little Boat That Could

November 27, 2010

(30×40, acrylic on canvas, unfinished)

I’ve had a boat that I’ve seen in my dreams for years…

I’ve painted it several times before…

I’ve been thinking about painting it big for years now.  30 x 40 inches big…

I’d actually started out with another painting in mind…

But then I realized, I had to paint the boat.

Sometimes that happens, you can only see what you see and until you paint it, you can’t paint a single other thing…

So, this is my boat.

My metaphorical me.

Somehow, through everything I’ve been through, I’m still upright…

I am the little boat that could and I can.

indigo and ochre

November 16, 2010

Today I stood beneath the stormy sky, the wind blowing across indigo and ochre and pelting my cheeks with the snapping rain and I felt, beautifully inbetween, as if on the cusp of a new beginning; as if, for a moment, the transcendent reached through and called me by my name…only the wind swept the words away before I could hear them.  I figure that means I need to keep my feet on the ground.

Into the bleu and a short recap of current events…

"into the bleu"

“into the bleu”
5×7 inches

So, life has been a bit more than insane of late and it’s all I can do to keep up with my daily schedule it seems but today I made some space and took a break from my math studies and painted this little  bleu fellow a universe to play in.  I don’t always know if the bleus want universes, sometimes they like to stand alone, but this fella had places to go, he said.

Last weekend marked an occasion for my art.  I have pieces hanging in two galleries here in Bellingham, The Blue Horse Gallery and Alford’s Gallery and Salon and I managed to get them all framed and ready before the First Friday Art Walk.  I sold a piece, which is encouraging.  It’s the first time I’ve had art on a gallery wall in nearly 15 years and I sold a piece on the first night.  Pretty amazing actually.  I’ve been giving myself regular painting breaks between my studies and mommy duties and I’ve got more works in progress.  I keep wondering how long it will take for people to get tired of my bleus but then I realize hardly anyone has seen them, and the people that have been watching them all along still get just as excited when they see new ones as they did the first time they ever saw them.  So, I think I should stop worrying about all that and just keep putting my brush into the water jar…

Mark Your Place

March 8, 2010

I’ve been working on this idea for the past two weeks, ever since taking on the project of painting for my inner-child and having some bright little happy things come to the fore.  “That would make a lovely little bookmark,” I said to myself after painting a couple little paper scraps. And then, after telling myself that no one would be interested in a bookmark but then disproving that by finding people that made such things (and people that bought them) I decided to go ahead and paint these little tributes as bookmarks and I’m offering some of them for sale here.  I may not get them all listed at once, so please check back if you don’t see the one you’re interested in.  Oh, and the butterfly one has been claimed by my little girl…so I’m painting another one.  :)
